Snapshot Highlight

I just had to share this beautiful photograph!  It was shot by Lidia Miller of Lidia Miller Photography.  It is one of the prettiest photographs I’ve seen in awhile.  The view is serene and the effects are quite stunning.  Lidia has recently won several competitions, placing first, second and third place in different categories.  I hope to be able to share more of my favorites from her collection.

More Photos of the Inauguration Cake

I received a very warm email from the President of Eli’s Cheesecake thanking me for posting about their inaugural cake.   I also received a promise of more photos, and here they are.  Thank you to Mr. Marc S. Schulman and his Marketing Manager Sarah Duff Zupancic for taking the time to send them.  Any time food is prepared for an event such as this,  it is done so in under very strict guidelines in a tightly secured and controlled environment.  The chefs are surrounded by secret service men who are present during every step of the preparation – and not just one or two, but more like droves of them.  Everything must be reviewed, inspected, and overseen.  Unfortunately, this is necessary for the protection of our President and his guests, and no easy task for those preparing and transporting a huge dessert such as this.

Inauguration Cake

This year, instead of a traditional cake, the inauguration cake for the Commander in Chief ball, was actually a 500 lb. apple-filled cheesecake.  The massive dessert was created by Eli’s Cheesecake in northwest Chicago and transported to Washington, DC for the event.  It is said that Lincoln loved apples, so apples were added to the dessert in keeping the Lincoln theme, so prominent during the event.

This is the only photo so far.  I will try to find a better one should it become available.  I would have liked to try a piece, although I would have hated to transport it and set it up!

Congratulations to Eli’s Cheesecake, although they are no strangers to the White House.  They’ve made their cheese cakes for at least one other inauguration celebration as well as Hillary Clinton’s 50th birthday when she was First Lady.
